More than 4000 years ago, Chinese acupuncturists had already observed that emotions unbalanced a Chinese sentiment, a meridian, an organ, leading to a disease.
Each Chinese feeling is linked to acupuncture meridians, organs, and thus to functions:
SHEN (mind/spirit, intelligence, wisdom, love) linked to the following meridians: heart, pericardium, triple heater, small intestine. Functions: brain, nerves, assimilation, circulation.
Shen too strong, excessive: Excitement, laughter, logorrhea, agitation -> excess on meridian -> excess on organ: acceleration of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, inflammation, autoimmunity, hypertonia, cell proliferation.
Shen too weak, insufficient: Shyness, trac, complaint, anxiety, forgetfulness -> deficiency on meridian -> deficiency on organ: slowdown of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, sluggishness, paresis, cell degeneration.
YI (thought, memory) linked to the following meridians: spleen/pancreas, stomach. Functions: digestion, bone marrow, glucose regulation
Yi too strong, excessive: Worries, mania, obsession -> excess on meridian -> excess on organ: acceleration of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, inflammation, autoimmunity, hypertonia, cell proliferation.
Yi too weak, insufficient: Distracted, deconcentration, laziness, disgust, memory loss -> deficiency on meridian -> deficiency on organ: slowdown of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, sluggishness, paresis, cell degeneration.
PO (instinct) linked to the following meridians: lung, large intestine. Functions: breathing, elimination.

ZHI (desire, decision-making, tenacity) linked to the following meridians: kidney, bladder. Functions: excretion, elimination, detoxification.
Zhi too strong, excessive: Stubborn, authoritarian -> excess on meridian -> excess on organ: acceleration of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, inflammation, autoimmunity, hypertonia, cell proliferation.
Zhi too weak, insufficient: Fear, panic, indecision, inferiority -> deficiency on meridian -> deficiency on organ: slowdown of metabolism, growth factors and hormones, sluggishness, paresis, cell degeneration.
HUN (soul, emotion, imagination) linked to the following meridians: liver, gallbladder. Functions: digestion, metabolisation, detoxification.
